Today’s project is a personalized travel themed piggy bank… and what better match for this theme than a ceramic camper van.
Perfect for saving for your road trip!
The piggy bank I sourced is an unglazed ceramic one.
These are cheap to purchase but you can make them look fantastic with a little care.
As the piece is unglazed, there is no need for a primer but do use acrylic paint.
While paint is included, consider switching to a better quality artists paint for longevity.
Use a gloss varnish to seal the paint as this will give you a little protection for when you apply your vinyl.
You can use the same varnish to seal the vinyl after application.
Allow the piece to dry thoroughly before vinyl application
I used several designs from the Silhouette Design Store as well as adding my own design elements using the basic shapes and text tools.
Use your calculation tools to help you: subtract, weld etc.
Cut your design from silver vinyl. Don’t fporget to also add weeding boxes around each element to make your job easier.
Transfer each design element using transfer tape.
If you struggle to get the vinyl to adhere, work with a lower tack transfer tape.
You can check this with a small scrap piece of vinyl on the bottom of your object.
Seal the piece with another coat of varnish.
This project makes a perfect gift, and I will be adding a travel journal/scrapbook to go with it. Join me next time to see a Valentine’s theme version of the journal project.
