DIY Halloween Glow In The Dark Treat Bag

Hello! Natalie here today with a fun project.

This project has two reasons to glow – the glow in the dark stickers and LED lights hidden inside.

The Gift Bag

Firstly, purchase, download and import your gift bag.

We are going to cut this from ribbed black cardstock.

You want to use a cardstock of reasonable thickness around 250-300gsm.

Assembling The Bag

Back the window panel with translucent paper, vellum or frosted acetate.

This will help to keep sweets from poking out while also acting as a diffuser for the optional lights.

Add glue and tape to the glue tabs and assemble the bag.

Place a weight inside the bag and set aside and allow to dry.

Designing The Stickers

Purchase and download the Halloween icons.

Add two copies to your mat.

One copy will be produced as is so move those down towards the bottom of mat.

The other copy needs to shrink down to fit the sticker panel, but first let’s add that to our mat.

Draw a box measuring 91mm x 25mm to form a strip that will decorate the top panel of your bag. Move and size your dots to fit accordingly.

Print And Cut

With the icons on your panel, detach the outlines so they don’t cut.

Add the registration marks and print onto Glow in the Dark sticker paper.

The Glow in the Dark can be printed on with either inkjet or laser.

If laser printing, we would advise sealing with clear vinyl prior to cutting and adjust your cut depth accordingly.

This prevents the toner scratching off in general wear and tear.

Load the printed sheet onto your cutting mat and send to cut.

Assembling The Project

Attach the strip to a piece of black card and apply the glue as shown so it remains clear of the bag closure mechanism. Add the remaining stickers to the bag or place them inside as an extra treat.

I added a strip of battery powered LED lights which I attached to the inside front of the bag so you can reach the switch without opening the bag. Fill the bag with sweets adding the light strand a little at a time so bulbs are spread throughout the bag.

You can always seal the battery pack with a piece of electrical tape to prevent little fingers touching it – but we don’t recommend this project for the under 10s. You could also build an envelope to house the lights and battery pack and glue this in place of the translucent paper.

This is a really fun project that you could even get your kids crafting with you.

The Glow in the Dark media is fascinating to work with, and remember to keep white elements so the glow in the dark can shine through.

The more you charge the glow in the dark the brighter the result.
