When I received the pack of Stencil Material I was quite excited to use it as the prospect of being able to make my own stencils opened up a myriad of possibilities!
As we were tasked to make something with a St Patrick’s Day feel I decided to make a scrapbook layout using shamrocks as my theme.
For my Stencil I used a design called ‘Heartbeat Shamrock’.
I started by downloading the design onto a letter sized design space and resizing it to 1.5 ins tall. I then duplicated it to the right, moved it very slightly left and merged it.
I duplicated this below and duplicated it right, then moved the right hand one slightly left.
I moved the second shamrock heart to the centre of the page.
I grouped the two sets of shamrock hearts and duplicated below twice so that I had six rows.
I then drew a rectangle 7.5ins wide and 10ins high and centred this to my page. I ensured that the top row of shamrock hearts touched the top of the rectangle and the bottom touched the bottom.
I then selected all six rows of shamrock hearts and distributed them vertically.
All that was left to do was to remove the unwanted pieces of shamrock heart and this was easy.
Make sure that the rectangle you drew in the step above is at the front of the design space and use the crop tool.
This will remove all the areas that extend beyond the rectangle.
I then cut my stencil from the stencil material and secured it to my white card with some washi tape.
Using green ink and a sponge I transferred the pattern to my white card.
As I said, I was really excited to use the stencil material and it certainly lived up to my expectations.
I will definitely be making my own stencils in future.
There are plenty of stencil designs in the design store if you don’t want to make your own.
