Hi, DT Sharon here today!
Can you not wait for the kids to go back to school or are you enjoying having them at home?
My project is useful either way. It’s great for the new term or you could use it for notes at home.
I thought this was a great idea to cover cheap, plain notebooks any way you’d like.
There are lots of great files that would work in decorating the cover.
Bring in your notebook cover file and arrange into colours.
You’ll need 12×12 card as the files are quite big.
Cut out the pieces.
There is also a little pocket for the inside but I didn’t use this.
Fold all along the dotted lines.
It’s best to use a bone folder for crisp edges.
Adhere the cover plates to the base of the covers.
Make up the base and attach the scalloped spine.
Lining up the creases makes it easier to construct.
Adhere the smaller petals to the larger base petals.
I cut out a circle using Silhouette washi tape to make a decorative centre.
I brought in the notes file and sized it to fit the front of the cover.
I cut all the file in white cardstock and then using the eraser took out the label to leave the word “Notes”.
I then cut that out in the same washi tape.
I adhered the washi strip to the scalloped edge.
Bend the flower around the cover and adhere but do not adhere the piece that overlaps.
Add the notes label.
And you’re done!
The sky’s the limit on decorating these covers.
You can use absolutely any files in the Silhouette library. I decided to add washi tape to jazz it up a bit. This cover was so easy to do, you could have matching notebooks or your name on them. I’m sure it would brighten up a school day.
TIP: because the pieces are quite big when you take them off the mat try facing the cardstock down and peel off the mat not the card. This stops the cardstock curling.
