Cork Napkin Rings | Silhouette Cork Sheets

Hi everyone, Helen here today.

Christmas is a lovely time of year for getting everyone together for a family meal.

In this tutorial I will show you how to make these stunning cork decorated napkin rings which double up as place settings. Perfect for any Christmas meal.

Here is how I did it.

Create The Design In Silhouette Studio

For this project I used this cute Christmas tree design. I loved it because it included an alphabet so I could personalize the napkin ring with the first initial of everyone at the meal.

Once I opened the file in Silhouette Studio I pulled to one side all of the letters I need and deleted the rest. The Christmas tree shapes were a little bit too big for my project so I resized them to 5cm height.

To resize the Christmas tree shapes, highlight all of the shapes as we want to resize them all at once. Open the scale table in the transform panel. Make sure the aspect ratio padlock is locked before you resize the shapes. Resize the height to 5cm and press enter. This will resize all the shapes.

We are now going to create the two backing pieces for the Christmas trees. To do this select one shape and open the offset panel. Select external offset and set the size to 0.4mm. Once you have done this select the shape you have just created and create another shape in exactly the same way.

Once you have done this arrange the shapes together so you can cut them out.

Cutting Out The Pieces

Now that you have created your shapes place all of the alphabet trees together to cut out from the cork, all of the mid-sized trees together to cut out of the corrugated card and all of the largest trees together to cut out of the leatherette material.

I cut out the cork material using the pre-loaded settings at first but I found that it didn’t cut all the way through. I modified my settings to depth 7, speed 1, force 20 and 2 passes. This worked first time and gave a good finish to the cork.

I cut the leather and corrugated card out using the preloaded settings.

Assembling The Napkin Pieces

Once you have cut all of the pieces out they are very easy to assemble. The cork and the corrugated card are self-adhesive so just remove the backing and layer them together as shown in the pictures.

Once all of the parts of the Christmas tree are assembled you will need to make the ring for the napkin ring. I made mine from a thick piece of ribbon. To do this I cut 15cm strips of ribbon and wrapped them around a rolling pin. I then fixed them with a hot glue gun. I also fixed the tree to the ribbon using the hot glue gun.

Table Dressed To Impress

This project was really simple and easy to do.

I loved the different textures layered together and I cant wait to use them on the Christmas table.

The cork, corrugated card and leather paper was really easy to use and cut out well. Thank you so much for reading my blog posts this year.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
