Getting Started

Today’s project is an animated card design using a design from the Silhouette Store!

You can adapt this design in lots of ways to make it personal to you.

Step 1: Working With The File

Import the file into the Silhouette Studio and prepare to cut out the individual pieces.

I used cut by colour and worked through my different card colours as follows in the steps below.

Step 2: The Sentiment Panel

Starting with the white elements cut these from white smooth card.

Without removing the card from the mat or machine, check your cut and then grab your pen holder.

I used Zebra Doodlerz in Fashion Black and Metallic Gold to outline the sentiment elements.

These were originally designed to be print and cut, but drawing allows us the add sparkle or special finishes like foil.

Step 3: The Card Base

Cut your base green pieces from thick regular card.

The inset pieces can then be cut from self-adhesive textured card for easy application.

Step 4: The Decorative Elements

Working through your colours, cut the remaining pieces for textured or pattern yardstick to complement your colour scheme.

Use simple patterns like small dots and stripes to avoid making the design too busy; and separate pattern elements with textured cardstock.

Assemble these using wet glue and set aside to dry.

Step 5: The Hidden Element

For your hidden element, apply the design pieces and then attach double sided adhesive to the corner triangle as shown.

You want this adhesive to be right up to the score line.

Fold along this score line in both directions so the piece folds and moves easily.

Adhere this to the back of the thinner strip following the cut guidelines on the piece.

Step 6: Final Assembly

Fold your two base card strips as shown in the image.

Work the folds well so they move freely.

Apply adhesive as shown and flip the thinner strip over and adhere.

You can then decorate your card with the remaining rainbow and sentiment decals.

There are lots of way to play with this design – from adding sentiment strips to the front panel, changing up the embellishments or simply playing with material choices (such as using acetate for the hidden panel to make elements float).
