On a lovely sunny day what is nicer than to have a pretty sun catcher hanging in your window to catch those rays?
Silhouette Shrink Plastic Sheets are the perfect medium to make one tailored to your very own garden.
I wanted to add pattern to the bird design I chose to use.
To do this I opened a background pattern, from my library, and selected one of my birds and placed it on top of the pattern.
I then selected both the pattern and the bird and chose crop from the modify menu.
After adding pattern to all of the birds I then resized them to the largest possible size to fit onto a letter sized design area with registration marks added.
I put three onto one design area and two and a sun onto another.
I then added a small circle to the top and bottom of the sun and to the top of each of the birds.
Once printed, I cut out one set of birds and put the onto a baking tray with a silicon liner and popped them into my oven.
They only took a very short time to shrink – I left the oven door open to watch them transform.
I was amazed at the difference in size and realized that the cut out parts of the birds impeded the way they shrunk.
Finally, to construct the Sun Catcher, I used some gold embroidery thread to string my sun and birds together.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this little Sun Catcher but would say be very careful when peeling the cut shapes from the backing paper as the plastic is very fragile and tears easily.
Other than that I found the Silhouette Shrink Plastic Sheets a joy to work with.
