Mexican Festival Of The Dead | Silhouette Cardstock & Chipboard
Hi Cheryl here again.
Boy I can’t believe how quick this year has gone and now the shops are dressed for Halloween and the Christmas stock is starting to come in!
I just love this time of year for all of the colours and on the 2nd of November there is a celebratory festival in Mexico where they remember and pray for family members who have sadly departed this world (you may have seen it on a recent James Bond movie).
This is my project for this week.
Craft Materials Used
• Silhouette Adhesive Backed Textured Cardstock
• Silhouette Chipboard
• DST / Wet Glue
• Gesso
• Paint
Open Your File
In your software open your file in the design space and workout what the different pieces are for and if you need to increase the size do it here so all your pieces will increase to fit.
Ungroup The Pieces
Here you want to un-group the pieces to make things easier so right click on the box and select un-group and then you can start to cut your pieces.

Select The Correct Cutting Mat
If you start off cutting the main pieces first when you have got your piece laid out on your mat and happy with the size make sure you have the correct size of mat as per the design page settings then hit to send.
Selecting The Correct Material
When you come to the send screen make sure you select the correct material as this will decide on your cut settings, also make sure your file fits within the cut screen then you can hit send to start cutting.
Prep Your Mat
Take your mat and take off your cut piece and put aside and continue to cut the rest of your materials ensuring that each time you pick the correct material before cutting.

Build The Bag
Now all the pieces have been cut it’s time to build the bag up but firstly you should Gesso the chipboard and paint the bag and then leave to dry.

Assembling
Once the Chipboard is dry you can then assemble the bag using glue to hold the pieces together.
Then you want to stick the skull on the front of the bag and then building the face up with the other pieces. Then your bag is ready to be used.

All Of The Colours
I enjoyed making this project although I didn’t really know anything about the festival at first but since looking online and spending time on this make I know a little more.
I think this type of bag could be used for many occasions as lots of people love skulls.
This festival falls just before bonfire night here in the UK on the 5th November which sees us celebrate the one and only Guy Fawkes.
I can’t wait to show you what I have made for next blog post.
